Kevin was born and raised in Greenville, North Carolina, where he played high school basketball, baseball, and soccer. He earned the BSBA and MBA degrees from East Carolina University, and the Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University. Kevin previously coached middle school boys and girls varsity basketball at a Christian school for five years, and he has coached his sons’ youth sports teams for the past eleven years. His family has enjoyed being part of the Sabres organization for the past five years.
Kevin met his wife, Catrin, while they were in law school together, and they have five children: Lydia, Abigail, Philip, Simeon, and Knox. The Joyners are active members of Zion Presbyterian Church where Kevin serves as an elder.
