Shawn Williams
Athletic Director
Shawn is a native North Carolinian having attended Wilson Fike High School. After playing baseball, football, and basketball through high school he attended North Carolina State University, and met his wife, Lauren, a Durham native. As an assistant for the JV Boys team, Shawn’s passion is to serve Christ in all words and actions, while encouraging the team to complete, and learn the game of basketball. Shawn and Lauren reside in Cary, along with their children; Thomas, Carolina, Kate, and Jameson and attend Summit Church.
Ryan Webb
Head Coach, Varsity Boys Basketball
Ryan was raised in Utah and played high school basketball, baseball and tennis. After meeting KaDawn Smith in 1997, they were married in 2002. They are the parents of six children, many of which are current Sabres players. Ryan received his bachelors from Utah State University and master’s degree from the University of Utah. The Webbs have lived in North Carolina since 2016 and love being a part of Sabre Nation. Being raised by a high school basketball coach and having three brothers play college basketball, Ryan practically grew up in a gym. He has been coaching in one form or another for the last 25 years. The Webbs love the game of basketball and all the wonderful things you can learn from competing and being a part of a team.
David Jones
Assistant Coach, Varsity Boys Basketball
David was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC, then received his degree in ministry from Kentucky Christian University. David is a full time pastor and, for the last 8 years, has been the planter and Lead Pastor at Relentless Church. David is married to his amazing wife of 25 years, Kelly, and has 3 kids, Mia, Jackson and Eli who have all been involved in the Sabres program.
In addition to coaching in various leagues from rec league to AAU, David coached our Middle School Girls in 2018/19 and was blessed to lead an incredible group who won the top bracket at East Coast Nationals as well as set the record for most points scored in a season for any Sabres middle school girls team. David has also coached the Varsity Girls team for the past several seasons.
Matt Wright
Assistant Coach, Varsity Boys Basketball
Matt was born in Northern Virginia and moved to North Carolina when he was 2 years old. He played for the Sabres for five (5) seasons and graduated in 2018. Matt is currently working full time for UPS as Supervisor at the Mebane Distribution Center
Matt coached our Middle School Boys team in 2020-2021 and JV Boys team in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 where the Sabres won NCHEAC State Championships in each season.
Skeet Woolard
Head Coach, Varsity Girls
Skeet was born and raised here in the Raleigh area, attending Athens Drive High School. Upon
graduation, Skeet went on to play four years of college basketball at UNC Greensboro culminating in a trip to the NCAA tournament in 1996. After college, Skeet spent three years as a teacher and coach, coaching varsity boys and girls basketball at Rocky Mount Prep in Rocky Mount NC. He also spent two seasons officiating the game. He has been around the game of basketball is some capacity for most of his life. Skeet and his wife, Candice, have been married since 1999 and live in Holly Springs NC with their three children; Tyler, Sydnee and Josh. Skeet and family are devoted Christians attending Cross Assembly in Raleigh NC.
Bobby Jurgens
Assistant Coach, Varsity Girls Basketball
Bobby has lived in the Raleigh area for over 35 years. After playing basketball, football, and running track at Broughton High School – Bobby attended NC State University as was a 4 year letterman for the Pack’s football team from 1987 to 1990. He played wide receiver and led the team in TD receptions his senior year. Bobby has spent the past 10+ years coaching youth football and basketball in the Cary area – and the past 5 years he has focused on coaching and developing elite level basketball players at the AAU circuit level. Some of the most influential people in Bobby’s youth were athletic coaches who helped him develop athletic and life skills – but most importantly helped lead him to Christ. Bobby’s passion is to do the same for the young people God has placed in front of him today. Bobby and his wife Nancy have been married since 2002 and have 4 children: Taylor, Lawson, and twins Dara and Dalton. Lawson, Dara and Dalton have played for the Sabres basketball organization for 4 years. The Jurgens family attends The Shepherd’s Church in Cary, NC.
Tanya Bange
Assistant Coach, Varsity Girls Basketball
Tanya was born and raised in New York – where she played high school volleyball, softball, and basketball. She attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She owned VO2Max Bootcamp – woman’s fitness classes in NY – and is currently co owner of The Fitness Lab here in Holly Springs. Tanya has known her husband, Bret since 4th grade and they were married in 1996. They have 3 children and moved to North Carolina in 2015. Her youngest daughter has been a part of the Sabres for 5 years. She enjoys coaching and has coached her son’s basketball teams and her daughter’s softball teams consistently from when they first started in sport. As an assistant for the Varsity Girls, her passion is to show the girls how to lead with your heart in everything you do on and off the court. She is very excited to be a part of Sabres Nation.
Jackie Fingleton
Head Coach, JV Boys Basketball
Jackie grew up in Virginia Beach, VA, and enjoyed playing basketball all through high school. He received a bachelor’s degree in Health, Fitness, and Rec from Bob Jones University and a master’s degree in Sport Management from Liberty University. After coaching basketball 12 years at a Christian school in Virginia Beach, he and his family relocated to the Raleigh area. He currently works as a sales rep for 323 Sports and has loved being part of the Sabres family for the last 3 years. He and his wife Christin have 3 boys, Ethan, Landon, and Dylan. His family is active at their home church, Hilltop in Fuquay.
John Mercer
Assistant Coach, JV Boys Basketball
John is an active duty Army Officer from Midland, MI. He has been stationed in North Carolina with his wife, Keri, and their 5 children since 2015. John has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Michigan University, a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology from the University of North Dakota, and a Master of Arts in Strategic Security Studies from National Defense University. John played basketball and baseball in high school and has been coaching basketball at the Middle School, JV, and Varsity level for 9 years. He knows firsthand how competitive sports can help positively develop young people into leaders and practice Christ-like values as part of a team. John looks forward to being a part of the Sabres community and contributing to the excellence that defines the Sabres organization.
Trey Wilson
Assistant Coach, JV Boys Basketball
Trey was born in North Carolina and has since lived in 4 different states before returning to NC in 2017. Trey played basketball for the Harnett Warriors his senior year under coach John Mercer. He has a younger brother, Ira Wilson, who played 6 seasons with the Sabres. Trey has played 2 seasons of rec basketball before finding his passion in coaching when he helped the Sabres MSB team last season as a student intern. Coming into this season, Trey is excited to be an assistant coach for the JVB and cannot wait for what this season holds helping the team grow on and off the court.
Rob Hoover
Head Coach, Middle School Boys Basketball
Rob Hoover has been the Middle School Boys Development team coach for three seasons and was also the head coach for the JV Girls team in 2019-20. He has also been an assistant head coach and a head coach for several Sabres Boys basketball teams. Rob has played basketball for most of his life, and as an adult he played for Navy teams in the US and overseas. His goal is to make sure that the girls on his team learn strong fundamentals, a good sense of fair play, to honor Christ on the court and off, and a confidence in themselves. Rob and his wife Dee have 3 boys: Jeremy, Harrison, and Jackson. Jackson and Harrison both played for Sabres teams. The Hoover family is actively involved in their church, Triangle Community Church in Apex.
Lee Webber
Assistant Coach, Middle School Boys Basketball
Lee was born and raised in Goldsboro, North Carolina, where he was around sports most of his life and played high school basketball and football.
He earned his B.S. in computer and electrical engineering and M.S. in computer engineering from NC State University.
Lee has spent the last twelve years coaching his three son’s basketball teams from beginner level through middle school ages.
He met his wife, Ashley, while attending NC State and have been married since 2004. They have three sons: Luke, Nathan, and Benjamin.
Luke was a part of the JVB and VB teams the last three years and has since graduated high school.
Nathan was on the MSB-Dev last year and is on the MSB this year.
The Webber family attends Mid-Way Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. In addition to Lee’s love for the game of basketball and teaching on-court skills, he is passionate about teaching young players to be well rounded individuals who honor Christ both on and off the court.
Noah Wright
Student Intern, Middle School Boys Basketball
Noah was born and raised in Apex, NC and has played basketball and baseball in rec leagues since he was 8. Noah is a senior in high school and this is his 7th season playing for the Sabres. He was part of the inaugural MSB Development team in 2018. He is also part of the Sabres baseball program. Noah loves the game of basketball and has been enjoying helping the middle school teams this season.
Olivia Hart
Head Coach, Middle School Girls and Assistant Coach, Varsity Girls Basketball
Liv was born and raised in North Carolina. She is the second of seven kids. Liv has played basketball for over 12 years, including 3 seasons in a rec basketball league, 7 seasons of AAU, and the Sabres for 10 seasons. Liv was selected to the NCHEAC All Conference team three seasons in a row (2020-22) and was the league MVP in 2021. Liv’s love for coaching really came through working at basketball camps at Shepherd’s Church in Cary. This is Olivia’s third season coaching the Middle School Girls basketball team.
Laura Mosley
Assistant Coach, Middle School Girls Basketball
Laura Mosley was raised on a ranch in southeastern Montana. Throughout high school, she participated
in basketball, volleyball, and track and field. She met her husband, Kurt, while attending Colorado
Christian University. They’ve been married 26 years and have five children, ranging in age from 13 to 21.
Laura has coached basketball over the years at Shepherd’s Church on several of her children’s teams. In addition to teaching on-court skills, Laura values the relationships with the players and instilling the principles that glorify Christ off the court.
Kevin Joyner
Head Coach, MIddle School Boys Development Basketball
Kevin was born and raised in Greenville, North Carolina, where he played high school basketball, baseball, and soccer. He earned the BSBA and MBA degrees from East Carolina University, and the Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University. Kevin previously coached middle school boys and girls varsity basketball at a Christian school for five years, and he has coached his sons’ youth sports teams for the past eleven years. His family has enjoyed being part of the Sabres organization for the past five years. Kevin met his wife, Catrin, while they were in law school together, and they have five children: Lydia, Abigail, Philip, Simeon, and Knox. The Joyners are active members of Zion Presbyterian Church where Kevin serves as an elder.
